Painted after a severe ice storm in Austin that left parts of the city without power or water for days, during a time of political and social strain. One evening, stopped at a light, I watched people simply playing in the snow. For a moment everything felt possible again. The HEB sign shaped like a cross references an earlier work, Parking Lot Birds. A discarded straw sits on one side (discard and discord); a bluebonnet stands on the other (Texas spring, renewal). The cowboy grackle watches over the scene.
